Football SOURCES: CB Jack Jones suspended for 2018 opener, out for spring practice

USC junior cornerback Jack Jones has been suspended for the season opener vs. UNLV for violating team rules, sources informed TrojanSports.com.

Discipline for the AP third-team All-American includes being held out of spring practice, in large part so he can focus on academics.

Jones was a full-time starter in 2017, leading USC with four interceptions. His absence will mean more reps for redshirt freshmen Greg Johnson and Je'Quari Godfrey, both of whom were limited by injuries last season.

Redshirt senior Jonathan Lockett, a 2016 starter at nickel who sat out all of 2017 to recuperate from hip surgeries, is also expected to see time at cornerback this spring.

Football Hemsley confirms he’s transferring

USC offensive lineman Roy Hemsley announced on Twitter he is transferring to Arizona State. We’d reported in February that Hemsley was intending to leave the program after three years as a reserve guard/tackle.

USC is now at 87 scholarships for 2018, meaning a few more departures are still coming. Here’s a reminder of the players we’ve identified.

Early signing period mistakes?? wi

Even with the needs of the roster taken into account I believe at least two mistakes were made during early signing. Having Tuli wait was the biggest as there a at least two players we signed early who will struggle to make the impact he will for Udub! Trying not to name as they’re now part of Trojan family but it’s easy to see if you look. I know I need to let it go but just can’t understand.

Galen needs to be packed this Saturday

I wish I could be there. I am in NY this weekend but would go if I were in LA. It does not really get any bigger than this for USC basketball. We just wrapped up a second place finish in the PAC 12 and now need this win for our tournament resume. It's also fUCLA and we need to stomp them on principle.

It's pretty amazing that the team is in this position with everything that's happened this year. Honestly, the FBI and the NCAA can both kiss my ass. At this point in time I just want to see this team win.

Lebron James and the NCAA

Yep. As much as I love the idea of Student-Athlete...it is a con except in the lower divisions and minor sports. Top tier Basketball & top tier Football are profit-making commercial enterprises. Who's kidding whom? The NCAA is a corrupt organization.

Just a matter of time before we either:
  1. Re-organize the NCAA to allow for paid athletes - lots of creative ways to make this happen - Athlete-students, recognizing and rewarding their commercial value as athletes first.
  2. Blow up the NCAA and create another organization that recognizes that we have professional development leagues - Universities can participate in this. NFL & NBA can assist in the financial support.
Both the NBA & NFL must come to terms that they also are corrupt in not recognizing their enabling of the phony NCAA. It is absurd that the Power 5 Conferences & Top Tier College Basketball teams have become "off balance sheet" enterprises to support the NBA/NFL organizations.

I think the top tier NCAA Football & Basketball programs will eventually have to be exposed for what they are - low/fixed labor cost profit making machines.

As much as it pains me to see the tradition die...this is where we are headed...to be a more just society.
