Got a minor tidbit this evening that I figured I’d pass along: If Clancy Pendergast remains the DC, I’m told there’s a good chance he’ll bring in Austin Clark to be the defensive line coach.

I mentioned this could happen last week and am hearing it’s a likely outcome if CP returns. Clark, a grad assistant for USC in 2016-17, is currently the defensive line coach at Illinois. Another source told me an overhaul is expected with the defensive staff there. Clark also played for Pendergast at Cal and is a noted favorite of his.

Such a move would mean the dismissal of Kenechi Udeze was entirely about a personality clash. As I reported earlier today, Lynn Swann is more concerned with identifying the next defensive backs coach.

The biggest question, of course, is will Pendergast be retained? I’ll let you know if/when I hear more on that front as well as any other possible coaching hires.
