Since I've been on campus a few times in recent weeks I've made sure to check in on the status of exiled offensive lineman E.J. Price. A well-placed source in the football program tells me Coach Clay Helton has yet to determine whether Price will rejoin the team this fall but noted Price's return is unlikely. (For what it's worth, Price's chances are better than kicker Matt Boermeester, according to another source with intimate knowledge of both situations.)
We have learned the primary reason the Georgia native has continued taking classes at USC is his mother insisted he remain in Los Angeles and focus on academics in the aftermath of being removed from the team last September. Thus, Helton's initiative has been to help Price get his life in order while he's still on campus. Price has shown signs of progress, but serious concerns involving team chemistry linger with respect to a possible reinstatement. Helton plans to make a final decision sometime in the coming weeks.
