News and notes from Tuesday's player-run-practice...
The second summer school session begins Wednesday, so everyone is here now. Today had a more businesslike feel to it. As we've noted before, these things start to get more competitive as they approach the beginning of training camp.
Several newcomers were in attendance for the first time, including WR/DB Keyshawn Young, OL E.J. Price, DE Connor Murphy, WR Velus Jones, DB Jamel Cook, LB Jordan Iosefa, RB Vavae Malepeai, Cary Angeline, and DT Stevie Tu’ikolovatu, fully clad in Utah garb. (USC can’t give him apparel yet because he’s a blueshirt and will technically be walking on this fall. Tu'ikolovatu, it should be noted turned 25 today.)
Cook is now riding around in a motorized cart after arriving on campus a couple weeks ago on crutches and a cast on his right foot.
Reps were very limited for the freshmen (and Tu’ikolovatu) as they get acclimated and learn the playbook. No different than usual in that regard.
TE Daniel Imatorbhebhe (hamstring) participated for the first time this summer. OL Toa Lobendahn (knee) increased his workload. LB Wole Betiku (turf toe) did some stretching on the side. Still no Adoree' Jackson. Also, Ronald Jones II’s dreads are gone. I don't know how to feel about this.

Intern Drew Krinsky produced the notes again:
Max Browne throws a screen to Justin Davis.
Browne goes short to Steven Mitchell Jr.
Max hits D. Imatorbhebhe for a short completion.
Sam Darnold tries for Josh Imatorbhebhe inside about 10 yards downfield and Jack Jones picks him off.
Browne goes 15 yards up the seam to D. Imatorbhebhe.
***
Browne hits Tyler Petite for 8 yards.
Browne connects with Deontay Burnett for about 20 yards
Darnold throws an out to De’Quan Hampton and Jones breaks it up. He read that perfectly.
Darnold hits Isaac Whitney for about a 30-yard gain.
Browne hands the ball off four times in a row.
***
Jalen Greene tucks the ball and run on consecutive plays. This is the first they’ve had him do this in summer PRPs.
Darnold keeps it and runs for a nice gain. He’s definitely capable of picking up bog yards with his legs.
Browne throws a screen to Whitney.
Browne follows with a screen to Mitchell.
Darnold keeps the read option and outruns the D-line to the edge. He looks natural doing this.
***
Browne hands off to Malepeai, who jukes and spins for a good pickup. He’s shiftier than you might expect. He has good speed too.
Browne throws to Hampton, who tries to snatch it with one hand and drops it. The players get on Hampton immediately.
Browne goes back to Hampton for a 5-yard completion.
Browne hits Mitchell for 7 yards.
CJ Pollard breaks up a pass from Darnold to D. Imatorbhebhe.
***
Darnold goes back to a wide open D. Imatorbhebhe and hits him for a 40-yard gain.
Browne completes a 9-yard pass to Mitchell.
Browne throws downfield and Trevon Sidney hauls it in with one hand.
Darnold hits Deontay Burnett for a 20-yard gain.
Darnold throws another 20-yard strike, this one to Mitchell.
Darnold closes out with a 10-yard pass to Angeline, who’s frame would remind you of Petite.

USC is scheduled to workout once more this week. Next week we will be allowed to speak to the players. Video highlights coming soon.
