The 17-16 (West wins) score was superfluous but did end with a failed try for two to win. 13 of the 33 points came after turnovers (interceptions). And the game had some bigger than usual DBs this year.

How does one even begin to qualify HS kids as the best in the country? For instance Trevor Lawrence the alpha QB of the east, struggled in throwing 2 interceptions , 2 more than in his full season, but who looked "Fabio-lous", I guess, with his long mane of hair. He was 11-17-83 yards-a high of 22, 1 TD and 2 interceptions. He ran for 13 net yards on 5 carries.

JT Daniels was the Alpha QB of the West. He was 6-13-113 yards, a high of 46 yards- 1 TD and 1 interceptions. He ran for 31 yards (7,10,14) on 3 carries. And being the leading runner and passer IMO he should have been the star of the game. Daniels used a near sidearm pass for one reception and other angles for various pass situations much like Darnold does. But he also uses the back shoulder pass a lot where he purposely throws the ball short and the WR stops and leans to the ball shielding it with his body from the defender. Also the sideline provides a barrier to interference on one side. Amon Ra knows this well but two incompletions by JT to other receivers were caught in a similar position slightly out of bounds. He did make a bad choice in one throw off his back foot and had a floater for an interception.

WR Amon Ra St. Brown. In such a game having your top QB helps. But they missed connection on 2 incompletions, and it wasn’t unit late 4th Q that they hooked up for a 17 yard TD. St Brown also had receptions of 31, 38, 7 and 8. The kid is elusive and smart…and maybe a slight problem. He showed a pretty independent spirit turning a 31 yard pass into a net 16 after an unsportsmanlike conduct of a kid showing off. And later JT Daniels ran to help Amon Ra by yelling at an East DB they burned on a TD pass calling it "Cali Ball". He is going to be fun, but also a handful. The PAC 12 refs are very thin skinned.

Other USC recruits that were apparent n the game were OL Justin Dedich, Gaotete (3 assist tackles), Hufanga (1 tackle plus 1 assist). And an ex-USC recruit Matt Corral looked good and had the other passing TD for the West.

Outstanding non-USC recruits were Aidan Hutchison 3 tackles , 1 assist 2 sacks plus 1/2 another tackle for loss. And Radley -Miles with perhaps the 2 best breakups by DBs, though one was underthrown. Kelvin Joseph had 6 solo tackles.

As to the hat thing…it’s a little old but I have to say the time for Amon Ra to pick had me with anxiety for a while. The kid that picked up the Ohio State hat and put it down for Purdue may not have gauged playing against Ohio State for 3-4 years. Ditto the kid who selected the Alabama hat to put it down and pick LSU. I think you face the Tide every year. And Saban and mascot elephant never forgets.
