The two-year-old headshot on Bryce Dixon's Rivals profile page says a thousand words. Dixon, funny enough, has asked us more than once to switch it out because he doesn't like the way it looks. I'd like to remove it for him but it's the only photo we have that size without his helmet on.
The dated photo is fitting in a way. The 6-4 tight end has lost quite a bit of the baby fat he carried coming out of high school, some of which he still had last season. Dixon maintains he still weighs 240 pounds but is "a lot stronger."
Here are the highlights from our conversation:
--on replacing Randall Telfer
Dixon: "I know it's a big role I got to take. I'm looking to be the starter, I'm looking to block, to go on out routes, to go deep. I'm looking for everything so I can be on the field 100 percent. I can't wait for the spring."
--on bulking up some in his upper body and trimming down around the waist
Dixon: "I got a lot stronger so I can take care of my running backs. They got to get open. I feel really good. I look better, I feel better. When you feel better you play better."
--on the addition of Tyler Petite and incoming freshman linebackers Osa Masina and Porter Gustin being listed as tight ends
Dixon: "It's all about competition. I'm here ready to compete."
--on the return of Jalen-Cope Fitzpatrick
Dixon: "Jalen's a good addition. We could use that. We can rotate and keep fresh legs in."
--on the possibility of employing two tight end sets
Dixon: "I'm sure they're going to use (both of us). We play with a Y and an F. We're both talented at our position."
