News updates from Saturday's practice at the Coliseum.

Coach Clay Helton announced DT Kenny Bigelow has a torn ACL and will likely miss the season. (Such a tough break for the kid. It was a non-contact deal too. Same knee as before.)

I asked Helton if he had plans to move anyone to the interior line and he said DC Clancy Pendergast already intended to employ a lot of nickel and feature two down linemen rather than three.

(Jordan Simmons' name came up and Helton said he liked what he's doing at offensive guard. In other words, Simmons is staying put.)

TE Taylor McNamara suffered a shoulder injury late in practice and did not return. Helton said he's had a sublexed shoulder since he arrived last summer, so his shoulder pops out on occasion. He expects McNamara to able to return by Tuesday.

TE Tyler Petite (concussion) did individuals but was held out of contact drills.

JuJu Smith-Schuster (hamstring), Noah Jefferson (back), Osa Masina (hamstring), Ykili Ross (shoulder), Michael Pittman (collarbone) and John Plattenburg did not practice.

Helton said JuJu will likely be available Tuesday. Jefferson's CAT scan came back negative.

Dominic Davis was absent because he was competing in the Power Conference Cardinal and Gold Challenge.

OL Henry Bainivalu, OLB Hunter Echols, DE Martin Andrus, LB Addison Gumbs, WR Cameron McDonald and safety commit Bubba Bolden attended practice.

Full details from the scrimmage coming in Footnotes.
