It’s the return of one of my favorite features. After each week of spring practice, I highlight who I believe were the best players at each position. As always, honorable mentions are to recognize those who I felt were just behind the top guy.

Here are my choices for the top performers from Week 1:
QB: JT Daniels -- being decisive, embracing easier throws
TB: Markese Stepp -- appears to have good speed for his size, falls forward
WR: Michael Pittman -- future captain, aims to win every rep
TE: Josh Falo -- playing fast, looks to be in good shape
OL: Austin Jackson -- improved footwork, vocal leader
DL: Christian Rector -- active hands, playing more natural position
LB: Palaie Gaoteote -- trimmer, expanding his game
CB: Chase Williams -- knows the defense, reads plays well
S: Talanoa Hufanga -- covers a lot of ground, better handle on scheme
Honorable mentions: QB Jack Sears (confident); TB Vavae Malepeai (assertive); WR Devon Williams (dominant); WR Tyler Vaughns (reliable); OL Andrew Vorhees (strong); DL Marlon Tuipulotu (athletic); LB Solomon Tuliaupupu (rangy); CB Greg Johnson (motivated)

Newcomer of the week: QB Kedon Slovis -- live arm, confident thrower
Honorable mentions: WR John Jackson III (sure-handed); DE Drake Jackson (versatile); CB Briton Allen (competitive)
