I wanted to see what folks think about SC's need for a QB in this class. There have been rumors abound that Tua is enamored with Alabama and the prospect of playing in the SEC. While I agree that it would be awesome to land a player like Tua in this class, and I agree that taking QB in every class makes sense (as you never know 1. how high school kids will develop, and 2. whether injuries will put an early end to someone's career), to me, it seems like this is how the next few years play out (this is based on various impressions/evaluations of the current guys on the roster and all that I've been reading about 2018 QB Matt Corral):
2016 Season: Starter - Max Browne; Backup -Darnold
2017 Season: Starter - Max Browne (if he doesn't jump to the NLF early (which is unlikely); Backup -Darnold OR Starter - Darnold; Backup -Green/Fink (Green seems like he has more tools than Fink, so unless he transfers he's the guy)
2018 Season: Starter - Darnold; Backup: Green (as Redshirt Senior)/2017 recruit Tua or Tate Martell (if we take anyone at all)
2019 Season: Starter - Darnold (if he doesn't leave early for the NFL; Backup: Matt Corral/2017 Recruit (if any)/Fink
2020 Season: Starter - Corral; Backup: 2019 QB Recruit/Fink
My point is that assuming Corral sticks and is as good as everyone thinks, and Darnold is really "that dude" like it seems he is going to be, there's a very strong likelihood that whoever we take in 2017 will never have a real shot at being the starting QB at USC (barring injury or other crazy circumstances). If I'm the parent of Tua or Tate, I'm sure this fact is going to play into my decision.
Curious as to what everyone else thinks (especially: Adam and Chris)
