The Ohio State Buckeyes are no strangers to recruiting players who have already given verbal commitments to other schools. USC's prized commit, Mique Juarez, is no exception.Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer and company offered the five-star outside linebacker a scholarship earlier this week.
Juarez has been committed to the Trojans since January, but he doesn't necessarily appear to be a hard commit, as he is planning to take an official visit to Columbus. Juarez may just be doing his due diligence by taking the official, but Steve Sarkisian and his coaching staff better not take this lightly.
Ohio State has seemingly turned into the new 'Linebacker U.' over the past few years. They boast an outstanding corps this season, featuring Darron Lee, Joshua Perry and Raekwon McMillian, who were three, four, and five-star prospects respectively coming out of high school. They have two more big-time prospects who are freshmen this season in Justin Hilliard and Nick Conner.
The Buckeyes would love to continue their dominance at the linebacker position, by adding arguably the best in this 2016 recruiting class. USC simply cannot let that happen because Juarez is a once in a lifetime type of football player. Considering his unique combination of size, strength, speed and athleticism, this kid is the total package.
When Juarez visits the Ohio State campus, he's sure to be treated like a king, but quite honestly not much selling needs to be done in the on-field success department, as the Buckeyes are the defending national champions.
Now, the Trojans probably don't have much to worry about since Juarez is a California native and clearly chose SC for a reason. But, they'll still want to play their cards right with this one or they will miss out on an extremely special talent.
Who knows how this drama will shake out? But, it could have major implications on the college football recruiting landscape.
