Intriguing 2023 edge rusher Collins Acheampong recaps USC visit
Collins Acheampong is seeing his recruitment heat up, and USC hosted him for a visit on Saturday.
Yesterday was my first opportunity to see Collins Acheampong in person. In fact, it was the first chance most people had an opportunity to see him on the football field. The Ghana native has not played football since his freshman season in 2019, which came shortly after he moved to the United States. Once the pandemic hit his school (Fairmont Prep in Anaheim) cut its football program and will not be bringing it back. He plans to remain there to continue playing basketball, so he will not play football this fall either. He has become one of the most intriguing recruits out west with several schools now in the picture including USC, Oregon, Washington, Utah and UCLA among others. He's definitely raw as a football player, but the upside is clear. There was nobody else who looks like him at the Under Armour camp on Sunday. He has colleges intrigued and Saturday he made an important visit to USC.
He told me he wants to stay close to home to allow him to play in front of his host family, so the Trojans should remain a big factor in the process.
“Everyone knows USC is a great school in terms of academics, and then the new coaching staff is bringing something new. I mean, they’re trying to build a family there. So, with the plans they have in place for athletes, for someone like me, I need that support. That really draws me to it, great academics and great people.”
