There was a great article in the WSJ today about Clemson (sorry, but all WSJ articles are behind a subscriber paywall). It points out that Clemson is not Alabama. They don't have the same amount of financial resources. They don't "own" a talent rich state like Alabama. They're not even the namesake university for South Carolina (the other USC is). When Dabo got there, "Clemsoning" was a verb that meant to unexpectedly lose to some stupid team for reasons people can't fathom. But Dabo is a great recruiter, and he hires and pays great coaches. He even took a pay cut to keep his coaching staff together. Clemson's motto is to do more with less and use creativity to compete at the highest levels. USC's athletics department motto seems to be"less with more" (judging by how much they paid that fool Pat Haden) and they tolerate a Pac-12 whose motto is also "less with more".
