Redshirt junior wide receiver Velus Jones and redshirt sophomore cornerback Greg Johnson, two of three players who recently approached the coaching staff about wanting to quit the team upon seeing the pre-spring depth chart, have entered the transfer portal, per sources.

Jones had a career-high 24 receptions last season while appearing in all 12 games, making four starts. He was projected to be a mainstay in what is supposed to be a deeper rotation of receivers in the Air Raid offense.

Johnson started the first four games of 2018 before seeing his time cut dramatically in favor of Isaiah Langley. With only five returning corners, Johnson figured to be in position to win a starting job this offseason.

Their departures continue a startling wave of transfers this winter. Eight players have left the program since December, including six wide receivers.

UPDATE: I spoke with linebacker Hunter Echols and he told me he is now not in the portal. It’s a good time to note that just because a player is in the portal doesn’t mean they have to transfer, and not being in the portal doesn’t restrict you from transferring.
