Missed Tackles and Yards Rushing After Contact

Is it just me...or did we have more missed tackles in this game than any previous outing this year? Also...it seemed that Minnesota punished us all night with yards after contact in their rushing game. Seems like their backs constantly pushed our D backwards every time we actually did make contact.

Having said all that, we gave up less than 30 points again. I recall last year we were saying if we could just hold a team to less than 30 points, our offense would likely win almost every game.

Not so much this year....

There’s no silver lining

Riley isn’t the answer. Odds are PSU puts an official nail in the season next week. It’s just not a very good football team - which was made extra clear by Michigan getting thumped by crappy Washington today.

So it’s another lost season. Again. There is no star power on the team. No quality on the lines. No exciting young depth. And there will be no fans in the stands. It’s too many bad years in a row - almost all of which have been disappointment to expectations. This is year 3 for Lincoln, the year we should be absolutely rolling with a star coach. But instead, losing to Minnesota. Sigh.

So what do you do? There’s no reason to have any optimism for next year. Ride out Riley for one more subpar year and then fire him? Fire him this year? Who do you even bring in? Outside of Nick Saban, I’m not sure who could even turn it around. It’s a bleak outlook if the expectation is higher than a middle tier bowl game. What a mess.

Thoughts

!. Miller Moss played a decent game. I am concerned with the John David Booty tendency to throw low into the defense. But, overall, a decent job.
2. Running backs, great game.
3. Z. Branch, the next iteration of Mario Williams. He is one of the fastest humans on the planet and can't really put up numbers. The ball hit him in the face mask.
4. Jacob Covington...lost in space. Still couldn't cover my Mother.
5. Eric Gentry. Come back soon.
6. O Line, coaching problem, recruiting problem, pretty decent game by Alani
7. D Line, not as stout as I thought. Penn St. is excited .
