–BROWNE, DARNOLD THROW 5 TDS, SMITH-SCHUSTER CATCHES 3, DAVIS RUNS FOR 2 IN USC SPRING GAME


LOS ANGELES–Quarterbacks Max Browne and Sam Darnold combined for 5 touchdown passes, including 3 to wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, and tailback Justin Davis ran for a pair of scores to highlight the USC football team’s 84-play Spring Game on Saturday (April 16) before 23,000 fans in the Coliseum.

Browne hit 7-of-11 passes for 114 yards and 3 scores, including a 64-yard TD on the game’s third play to wide receiver Darreus Rogers, while Darnold was 6-of-7 for 63 yards and 2 touchdowns. Browne’s other scoring tosses were 38 and 1 yarders to Smith-Schuster, while Darnold threw a 4-yard TD pass to Smith-Schuster and a 38-yarder to tight end Daniel Imatorbhebhe.

Smith-Schuster (55 yards) and Imatorbhebhe (65 yards) each had 5 receptions overall, while Rogers added 3 grabs for 91 yards.

Davis ran for 62 yards on 8 carries, with short scoring runs of 2 and 1 yards. Tailback Ronald Jones II rushed for 64 yards on 14 tries, with a 2-yard scoring run on the game’s final play.

Inside linebacker Olajuwon Tucker led the defense with 6 tackles, while fellow inside linebacker Michael Hutchings and safety Marvell Tell III each added 5 stops. Cornerback Kevin Carrasco intercepted a pass by quarterback Matt Fink at the goal line.

The game, which concluded Troy’s 15 days of spring practice, included portions of a regular practice in addition to situational scrimmage plays. During the field goal portion of the day, blind long snapper Jake Olson executed a pair of perfect snaps on 32-yard field goal tries by placekicker Matt Boermeester.

USC opens its 2016 season against defending national champion Alabama on Sept. 3 in Arlington, Tex. before returning to the Coliseum for its home opener on Sept. 10 against Utah State.
