Football Tajwar's First-and-10 from Penn State game

Taj had so much to say on his five main points we tweaked it from 10 to 5 this week, but it's every bit as thorough and full.

We're also going to add a few more video clips into the second section but with the football-basketball double-duty I just wanted to get it posted for you.

Kamala Harris warns Israel of ‘consequences’ of Rafah assault

The US vice president said that it would be a ‘huge mistake’ to move into Rafah with any type of major military operation.

Israel could face “consequences” if it launches a ground assault on the city of Rafah in southern Gaza, the US vice president has warned.

Vice President Kamala Harris said in an interview that aired on Sunday that it would be a “huge mistake” for the Israeli military to move on the city. The comments appear to underscore the continued strain in relations between Washington and Israel as the latter’s war in Gaza continues.

The United States and other Israeli allies continue to warn against an assault on Rafah, where over 1 million Palestinian civilians are sheltering.

“We have been clear in multiple conversations and in every way that any major military operation in Rafah would be a huge mistake,” Harris told ABC’s This Week.

Fun Mason Cobb anecdote

I stayed to work after practice the other day for a half hour before scooting to Galen for hoops. As Jeff and I were leaving Michelson Hall, we see Mason Cobb cruising down the road on a motorized scooter with his dog running beside, in front or behind him, free as the wind — no leash — but making sure he kept pace with Mason the whole way.

Now I need to know the story of how Cobb trained that pup, lol.

Meanwhile, the party in power has spent years openly plotting to throw their political opponents in jail

Most importantly, though, the past four years saw Democrats at the local, state, and federal levels upend historic norms associated with rule of law. Here’s just a partial list:

  • Democrat New York Attorney General Letitia James ran for office in 2018 on a Soviet-style threat of getting Trump, who she claimed had illegitimately won the 2016 election. The result was a never-before-prosecuted charge of inflated assets and an indefensible $350 million fine. After businesses began to worry that the common bookkeeping approach used by Trump officials might result in similar prosecutions for their businesses, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul reassured them this government action was “an extraordinarily unusual circumstance” — meaning it would only be used to go after Trump.
  • Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg worked with a slew of Biden-connected attorneys, including Biden’s former #3 at the DOJ, to gin up a murky 34-count indictment of Trump for non-disclosure payments, even though no actual crime was alleged and the statute of limitations for looking into the payments had expired.
  • Billionaire Democrat activist Reid Hoffman secretly bankrolled a civil suit in New York related to outlandish allegations that Donald Trump slipped into a Bergdorf Goodman dressing room in the 1990s and sexually assaulted E. Jean Carroll, then a woman in her 50s. George Conway, who had tried and failed to get hired in the Trump administration, helped coordinate the lawfare. A New York jury awarded Carroll nearly $90 million. She and MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow giggled about using the funds to go on a shopping spree.

Football Wednesday practice -- Maryland week

Interviews were D'Anton Lynn, Akili Arnold, Zion Branch, Jamil Muhammad, Kobe Pepe, Devan Thompkins and Desman Stephens.

Uploading now.

Lynn didn't say much of note, per usual, but he did say Kam Fountain is going to get his opportunity while acknowledging he's still raw. I asked if Marcelles Williams might get a chance with how the cornerbacks struggled, and he sidestepped that one and said he couldn't say at this point, so it doesn't sound like it's imminent on that front.

Football PFF grades, snap counts and advanced stats from USC-Penn State

Offensive snap counts (60 total plays):

QB Miller Moss 60, LT Elijah Paige 60, LG Emmanuel Pregnon 60, C Jonah Monheim 60, RG Alani Noa 60, RT Mason Murphy 60, RB Woody Marks 50, WR Ja'Kobi Lane 41, WR Kyron Hudson 36, WR Makai Lemon 35, WR Duce Robinson 34, TE Kade Eldridge 31, WR Zachariah Branch 25, WR Kyle Ford 19, TE Walker Lyons 14, RB Quinten Joyner 10, WR Jay Fair 4, RB Bryan Jackson 1.

Top-graded USC offensive players:

1. WR Makai Lemon, 78.5
2. WR Duce Robinson, 70.8
3. RB Woody Marks, 70.7
4. WR Kyron Hudson, 69.5
5. RB Quinten Joyner, 66.0
6. RT Mason Murphy, 65.5
7. WR Ja'Kobi Lane, 63.6
8. LG Emmanuel Pregnon, 62.3
8. C Jonah Monheim, 62.3
10. QB Miller Moss, 59.5

Offensive stats:

-USC allowed 10 pressures: Elijah Paige 4, Jonah Monheim 3, Alani Noa 2, Mason Murphy 1 (sack)
-Emmanuel Pregnon had the highest pass-blocking grade (83.2) while Murphy had a 79.0 (his second-best of the season). No Trojans had a great run-blocking grade (Monheim was tops with 62.9) ... despite rushing for 189 yards and the RBs averaging 8.4 yards per carry. So, again, I don't always understand these grades.
-Once again, USC had almost no downfield passing attack. Miller Moss was just 1 for 4 for 25 yards on passes thrown 20+ yard downfield. This is a weekly thing now.
-Moss was under pressure on 12 of his 35 dropbacks and Penn State blitzed 9 times.
-Moss finished 20 of 34 for 220 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT
-With 111 yards, Woody Marks notched his fourth 100-yard rushing game in six tries this season after having only two career 100-yard rushing games in four seasons at Mississippi State. With 579 rushing yards this season, he is just 3 short of matching his career-high from 2022.
-Marks averaged just 1.9 yards after contact per carry and forced 3 missed tackles.
-Marks extended his streak of consecutive games with a catch for 51, which is the longest active streak in college football.
-Quinten Joyner's 75-yard touchdown run was the longest by a Trojans since Ronald Jones II had an 86-yard touchdown run at Washington State in 2017.
-Makai Lemon was the most targeted USC WR with 9 (catching 6 for 73 yards to lead the team). Kyron Hudson had 5 targets while Ja'Kobi Lane, Duce Robinson and Zachariah Branch all had 4 each. Lemon averaged a team-best 6.8 yards after the catch.
-After playing primarily in the slot the last two games, Robinson played just 9 snaps in the slot and 17 out wide.
-With 2 catches for 6 yards, Branch has now been held to 10 or fewer receiving yards in two straight games.
-There were no WR drops.

Defensive stuff coming ...

Football Is it Kam Fountain's time to shine?

My takeaway from what D'Anton Lynn said today is that he'll get some reps, but there's no guarantee he has a notable role immediately even with Anthony Lucas out. Sounds like we're going to see more Sam Greene and Solo before we see a ton of Fountain. But maybe he was just being coy.

How do you redistribute Anthony Lucas' snaps and how ready is Kam Fountain to maybe take on a share of them?

"You know, I don't know exactly, it's going to just depend on the flow of the game, but Kam is going to be a guy that his role is going to continue grow. Again, I don't know exactly what it's going to be this week, but he is going to get some time. He's been doing good stuff in practice. He's flashed all camp, so I'm just excited that he gets a chance to go out there and do it on actual game day now."

Is he still a little bit raw in some areas at this point?

"Very, very, but you know, all the freshmen are at this point."

Where have you seen Kam grow some?

"Just his football IQ. For him to come in here and to play a different position and to learn everything we're doing up front, it was completely different for him. Just his knowledge of the scheme and football overall."

SURPRISE: The FBI Just Stealth-Edited Its Violent Crime Rate, Blows Up Democrat and Press Narrative

When the FBI originally released the “final” crime data for 2022 in September 2023, it reported that the nation’s violent crime rate fell by 2.1%. This quickly became, and remains, a Democratic Party talking point to counter Donald Trump’s claims of soaring crime.

But the FBI has quietly revised those numbers, releasing new data that shows violent crime increased in 2022 by 4.5%. The new data includes thousands more murders, rapes, robberies, and aggravated assaults.

The Bureau – which has been at the center of partisan storms – made no mention of these revisions in its September 2024 press release.

Lincoln Riley makes clear Miller Moss is entrenched as USC's starting QB

This isn't news as it was never in question, but since there is so much discussion on here about Maiava, here ya go:

"Jayden is doing a really good job. I’m very confident if the situation arose that Jayden was going to play that he would play well. But Miller is our starter. Miller has played a lot of really good ball. He’s put our team in position to win a lot of games. He, like anybody, some of the things he needs to do better, he owns it. I promise you, he wants it more than anybody with what he puts into it. He’s our leader. He’s our starter. There’s zero question about that."
